For half a century, Benaka has stood as a beacon of meaningful, innovative, and culturally rooted theatre, carrying forward the rich legacy initiated by the visionary B. V. Karanth. True to its tradition of reviving and reinterpreting classics for contemporary audiences, Benaka once again bridges the past and the present with this delightful production.

Originally penned by Sri B. R. Laxman Rao, this modernised adaptation is imaginatively designed and directed by Sri Pramod Shiggaw. While the script has been thoughtfully revised to resonate with today’s audiences, it beautifully retains the charm, rhythm, and distinct flavour of the original company-style drama.

This rib-tickling situational comedy revolves around two couples and their circle of acquaintances. A seemingly innocent photograph of one protagonist sparks suspicion in another, planting seeds of doubt about marital fidelity. What follows is a hilarious chain reaction — each character doubting the other — leading to a whirlwind of misunderstandings, comic confrontations, and dramatic revelations. The play cleverly captures how suspicion, when left unchecked, can spiral into chaos.

Music plays a pivotal role in the narrative, serving as a powerful medium through which characters express their innermost emotions. The melodious and evocative compositions rendered by Gajanana T. Naik add depth, vibrancy, and nostalgic charm, promising to strike a chord with theatre lovers.
